What Marifa does

Marifa lets you photograph a business card and turns it into a saved contact using an AI text-recognition service. It supports mixed Arabic and English cards.

What we store, and where

Your scanned contacts — names, titles, companies, phone numbers, emails, and the card photo — are stored only on your device, in your browser/app's local storage. Marifa has no server-side database of your contacts, and we cannot see, access, or recover your contacts. Deleting the app or clearing its data permanently erases them, and there is no cloud backup.

What leaves your device

When you scan a card, the photo is sent, at the moment of scanning only, to OpenAI's API for text recognition and extraction. OpenAI processes that image under its own terms (openai.com/policies) and it is not stored by Marifa after the response is returned. No other part of your data — saved contacts, images already saved, or usage history — is transmitted anywhere else.

Free scan limits

Marifa tracks how many free scans you've used this month using a counter stored locally on your device. This counter is not linked to any account or personal identifier.

Permissions

Marifa requests camera access only to let you photograph a card, and never records video or audio. You can always choose "Upload Photo" instead of using the camera.

Your choices

You can export your contacts (CSV or vCard) or delete any contact at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
